Unit 8, Ancient Rome; Lesson 2: Geography II

I.  Standard(s): TSW concept map standard 6.52 only for this lesson! 6.51-Identify and locate the geographical features of

6.52- Analyze how the geographical location of ancient
Rome contributed to its political and economic
growth in the Mediterranean region and beyond. 

     A.  Clear Target: I can identify and locate the geographical features of ancient Rome, and analyze how the geographical location of ancient Rome contributed to its political and economic growth in the Mediterranean region and beyond.

     B.  Set: TTW tell some jokes to get everyone ready to learn.  TSW complete the GIMKIT in the Bell Ringer as an interest cue.

     C.  Bell Ringer: TSW complete a GIMKIT over Ancient Roman Geography. Here is the link.

               1.  TTW go over the clear target with the students

               2.  TTW discuss the Bell Ringer with TS if time is available and or it is deemed necessary.

     D.  Presentation of New Material: TSW listen to a lecture and answer their key questions on the guided notes provided while going through the presentation.  The questions from their notes are listed below at number 3. 1.  TSW complete their notes by writing down writing down and answering the questions in Section D. Presentation of New Material, number 3.  They will do this while listening to the lecture/reviewing the presentation.

Finally there is an exit ticket over Roman Geography lessons one and two that TS must complete before the end of the class period. The exit ticket link is found in the Closure section (G) below.

     E.  Guided Practice: TTW show the students how to get to the day’s presentation of new material and independent practice; and explain what they are doing to complete the day’s lesson.  TTW then choose a student at random to perform the same tasks.

    F.  Independent Practice (The assignments are due the next school day unless otherwise stated):  

1.  TSW complete their guided notes.
