I. Standard(s): HS.WH.CH.1 Analyze the rise and fall of major states and empires in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas between 1300-1500.
HS.WH.CE.1 Examine effects of the movement of people, cultures, goods, diseases and technologies through established systems of connection, including the Silk Roads, Trans Saharan Trade Routes and Indian Ocean Maritime System between 1300-1450.
A. Clear Target: I can explain the differences between Mongol empire’s and Ming Dynasty’s foreign relations and the impacts that had on China and the world. I will know that I have it when with at least 80% accuracy I can list the differences and their impacts.
B. Set/Interest Cue: Bell Ringer and TTW tell some jokes, or ask some riddles to the students in order to get their brains ready for learning.
C. Bell Ringer: On Day One (Mongols): TSW answer the following question on their own paper and turn it in. Was the opening of trade on the Silk Road by the Mongols good or bad for the world at the time and why?
On Day Two (Ming Dynasty): What was Marco Polo’s impact on the Europeans after his return to Italy?

D. Vocabulary: TTW review the clear target with the students ensuring understanding of the new terms (if any) and then lead a discussion on the bell ringer to ensure that the students understand the information in the lesson from the class prior.
E. Presentation of New Material: TSW take notes on a lecture in class. TSW be able to answer check for understanding questions that the instructor may ask along the way. TS may also discuss some check for understanding questions and their answers with a peer when directed by the instructor.
Students can also watch the video of the lecture if they were absent, need to verify, or just complete their notes by going to Edpuzzle for their class period.
