A. Clear Target: I can explain the impacts of trade between the African empires and empires outside of Africa, as well as the changes it caused African society. I will know that I have it when with at least 80% accuracy I can answer questions detailing those points.
B. Set/Interest Cue: Bell Ringer (Crash Course Video and questions) and TTW tell some jokes, or ask some riddles to the students in order to get their brains ready for learning.
C. Bell Ringer: TSW watch a Crash Course Video on Mansa Musa and answer some questions. Here is the link to the video
Here is the link to the worksheet for students to copy on their own paper if they were not in class. Crash Course Video Worksheet.
D. Vocabulary: TTW review the clear target with the students ensuring understanding of the new terms (if any) and then lead a discussion on the bell ringer to ensure that the students understand the information in the lesson from the class prior.
E. Presentation of New Material: TSW complete a gallery walk today in class. They will divided themselves evenly among each station, or TTW do that and they will take notes on worksheets that TT passes out. TSW be able to have a discussion over the gallery walk at the end of class. TS may also discuss some check for understanding questions and their answers with a peer when directed by the instructor.
Here is the link to the Gallery Walk slides. TS need to answer the impacts by rewriting the impacts they find on the 5 impact slides in their own words. TS that are absent, or have lost their impacts worksheet need to write these impacts on their own paper. Be sure to label the impacts for each slide.
Students can also watch the video of the lecture if they were absent, need to verify, or just complete their notes by going to Edpuzzle for their class period.
