Unit 3, Ancient Egypt; Lesson 3: Geography

Note:  TTW= The Teacher Will; TSW= The Students Will; GCR= Google Classroom 

I.  Standard(s):  6.13: Identify and locate the geographical features of ancient Egypt, including: Mediterranean Sea; Nile Delta; Nile River; Red Sea; Upper and Lower Egypt; and the Sahara Desert

     A.  Clear Target:  I can identify and locate the major geographical features of ancient Egypt, and explain why the Nile river was so important to the development and continuance of the ancient Egyptian civilization.

     B.  Set:  TTW tell some jokes to get everyone into learning mode, and then lead a discussion on the clear target and or bell ringer to ensure that the students understand it/them.

     C.  Bell Ringer:

            1.  Question:  TSW complete their Egyptian overview from the previous day’s lesson (Test).

          2.  Discussion:  TTW lead a discussion on the previous day’s lesson.  TSW answer questions about the lesson. After the class has answered the question to the best of their ability, TTW assess if there needs to be a review of the previous day’s lesson.  If a review is needed, TTW have the students get out their notes and will review the material with them.

               b.  If no review is needed TTW have the students get ready for today’s lesson.

     D.  Presentation of New Material: TSW watch a video on Ancient Egypt’s Geography.  While watching the video, TSW fill in their map of Egypt in their notes packets and complete their guided notes from their notes packets.  Here is the link to the video:  Ancient Egypt Geography.

          1.  Checks For Understanding (CFU):  Discussion

          2.  Video in Video N/A

          3.  Simulation:  N/A

     E.  Guided Practice: TTW demonstrate for the students how to: Find and open the day’s lesson.  TTW have a student explain all of the steps.

     F.  Independent Practice (The assignments are due the next school day unless otherwise stated): TSW complete their map from section D above.

     G.  Closure:  TTW stop class with approximately 10 minutes before class ends and discuss the clear target.

     H.  Assessment: TSW be able to answer questions in the nest class’ discussion over the Geography video.
