Ancient Egypt, Lesson 1 Geography

Note:  TTW= The Teacher Will; TSW= The Students Will; GCR= Google Classroom 

I.  Standard(s):  6.13: Identify and locate the geographical features of ancient Egypt, including: Mediterranean Sea; Nile Delta; Nile River; Red Sea; Upper and Lower Egypt; and the Sahara Desert

     A.  Clear Target:  I can identify and locate the major geographical features of ancient Egypt, and explain why the Nile river was so important to the development and continuance of the ancient Egyptian civilization.

     B.  Bell Ringer:

            1.  Question:  TSW write down all of the information they can remember about ancient Egypt’s society, civilization, and culture.

                  a.  TSW think about the previous day’s lesson and write down all of the important facts that they can remember about ancient Egypt’s society, civilization, and culture.  TSW write this information in their notebooks.

                  b.  TSW share this information, and copy down information that they may not have gotten on their own with/from other students.  TSW find partners by: Eye color; shirt color; birth month; or other random ways so that they can share with different people.

          2.  Previous Day’s Clear Target: I can demonstrate a general understanding of:  The Egyptian society; why it was able to form; its government; and culture

               a.  Discussion:  TTW lead a discussion on the previous day’s lesson.  TSW answer questions about the lesson. After the class has answered the question to the best of their ability, TTW assess if there needs to be a review of the previous day’s lesson.  If a review is needed, TTW have the students get out their notes and will review the material with them.

               b.  If no review is needed TTW have the students get ready for today’s lesson.

     C.  Set: TTW lead a discussion on the clear target and or bell ringer to ensure that the students understand it/them.

     D.  Presentation of New Material: TSW watch a couple of videos on Ancient Egypt’s Geography.  While watching the videos, TSW fill in their guided notes and complete the map of Egypt in their notes packets and complete their guided notes from their notes packets.  Here is the link to the first video:  The Gift of the Nile  Here is the link to the second video: The Land of Plenty

          3.  Simulation:  N/A

     E.  Guided Practice: TTW demonstrate for the students how to: Find and open the day’s lesson.  TTW have a student explain all of the steps.

    F.  Independent Practice (The assignments are due the next school day unless otherwise stated):

1. TSW complete their map from section D above.

2. TSW complete the Google Worksheet.  Here is the link.

     G.  Closure:  TSW be able to answer questions in the nest class’ discussion over the Geography video.

     H.  Assessment:  Question and answer/Discussions/The guided practice/Closure discussion/Quiz if used/ Exit Ticket if used;
